| Brand and Model | Interface | SuSE versions | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creative ZEN Stone Plus | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.1 | Tested on SuSE 10.1 (32 bits). Device is detected automatically (as soon as plugged) and mounted as removable disk. |
| iPod Shuffle (2nd. generation) | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | It works like a charm on KDE 3.5.7 / Amarok 1.4.7 |
| iriver T30 | USB 2.0 | openSuSE 10.3, 11.0, 11.1 (64bit) | The default firmware (using MTP) doesn't work, but iriver has provided a downloadable firmware for the gadget to be used as an USB mass storage device. The customer needs a Windows machine to rewrite the firmware. It then works with Linux, only the tracks are listed and played in a random order. In Windows there is the possibility to order them using the software that ships with the thing, but in Linux the only solution is to create .m3u playlist files. |
| SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.2, 10.3 | Needs to be manually (on the player) forced to USB mass storage mode each time it is plugged in: Troubleshooting_Gadgets#SanDisk_Sansa_View_MP3_Player |
| TrekStore i.Beat censo | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | Works great on KDE 3.5.7 / Amarok 1.4.7 |
| Creative MuVo | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | It works on KDE 3.5.7 / Amarok 1.4.7 |
Mediaplayers
| Brand and Model | Interface | SuSE versions | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proline NK01 4GB | USB 2.0 | openSUSE 11.1 (64 bit) | Works without a problem under KDE4.2. When plugged in, shows up in Dolphin. Also works under Amarok 1.4 |
| Creative ZEN V Plus | USB 2.0 | SuSE 11.0, 11.1 | Set Amarok to MTP device, hook up the Zen and click connect in Amarok. If you set the Zen to have a 'disk' partition this is also functional and accessible (useful for installing DOS on to update firmware) |
| Cowon iAudio7 | USB 2.0 | SuSE 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 | Works out of the box in UMS mode. |
| Creative Zen Vision:M | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | KDE 3.5.7 Wont mount even with libmtp installed. Amarok was unable to see the device. Edit: Works only with Gnomad2 and the required dependencies. |
| Maxfield MaxJam 1GB. | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | Propietary video format that only works under MS Windows (or VirtualBox). File tranfers are done via konqueror (MTP protocol) |
| Memorex 4GB Media Player MMP8585C | USB 2.0 | SuSE 11.1 | After plugging the media player into the PCs usb port, hold the play/pause button for about 5-10 seconds until a USB icon appears on the media player. Once that icon is visible, then one can release the button. Hotplug/automout does not work and instead one has to manually mount as a vfat device via terminal/konsole. "fdisk -l" lists devices. Create mount location via: "mkdir /media/mp8585". Assuming device is /dev/sdi (as an example) then mount via:
"mount -t vfat -o umask=000 /dev/sdi /media/mp8585" When finishing, do not disconnect the cable or umount the drive until after the Memorex Media player says safe to unplug the usb cable. Ignoring this during a copy operation can have bad consequences. |
| Samsung YP-K3 | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (64 bits) | Tested on KDE 3.5.7 / Amarok 1.4.7. Device uses MTP to transfer data. When mounted with "mount -t usbfs usbfs /proc/bus/usb" it can be accessed under Amarok by setting up the MTP option in "Configure Portable Player Support" menu. Images and video still no tested. |
| Samsung YP-MT6 | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | Tested on KDE 3.5.7 / Amarok 1.4.9. Mounted like a flash drive and supported drag and drop using konquor and worked with Amarok with transfering. |
| Sandisk Sansa Express | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.3 (32 bits) | KDE 3.5.7 Plug and play. |

| HBCI Card Reader | cyberJack® pinpad [1] | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.0, 10.3 | The card reader has been tested as well on 32 bit as on 64 bit systems. However for a 64 bit system the 32 bit driver has to be installed in order to use it with the Homebanking software Moneyplex®. Furthermore Moneyplex® has to use the library located in /usr/lib/readers. Sometimes Moneyplex has problems to connect to the card reader. To solve this problem, unplug the card reader from the usb port and plug it again. |
| Voice recorder | Olympus WS-300M [2] | USB 2.0 | SuSE 10.1 | This device has been tested on SuSE 10.1 (32 bits, smp). It works as USB mass storage device (no drivers needed) and it is automatically mounted on kde 3.5. Audio files are saved with "wma" format and can be reproduced with any compatible audio player. Note: only basic functions tested, as device detection / mounting and file access. It seems this device can be used as "music player" but advanced functions has not been tested. |

It is needed to edit the the "/etc/usb_modeswitch.conf" file, plug in the device, wait for a few seconds, launch as root the "usb_modeswitch" command from a console (or create a rule in "/etc/udev/rules.d/") and, of course configure correctly "/etc/wvdial.conf".
